Regarding the A380, and having flown it on several airlines (AF, SQ, EK), I fail to see what is "amazing experience" about it. Yes, you are assured to have a recent plane with recent seats. Yes it does look different when looking at it. Yes there is some emotion once boarding for the first time. But the inside is not that different from a 744. Actually the lower deck is narrower than a 747.
Given all the problems mentioned on FT (technical problems, delays, frequent rescheduling, chaotic boarding, delays in getting bags), I would personally try to avoid it.
The OP is asking specifically about J on the 380 v the 777, not about the width of the lower deck (this is totally irrelevant, as J is located on the Upper Deck). I do not check bags, so am not concerned about baggage reclaim. We were deleayed 50 mins out of JFK, but that is to be expected for any flight departing JFK at that time, regardless of aircraft type. Now when comparing J on the 380 to that of the 772, I don't believe one can argue the 772 wins.
