I'm confident that AS would be the same way. A few months ago I didn't hear my alarm clock go off for a 0645a flight. I called the MVPG line and the sympathetic (I think) gal said "oh, no big deal. I just confirmed you on the 9a flight, you'll keep your UG too."
I think in these situations having status would definately help your cause. If you had called the regular customer service number I wonder if the response would be the same
