As you can imagine, the seats are much nicer and more spacious. Food, wine, and service all are better.

While I really like the J seats even though I'm tall and somewhat broad-shouldered, I still agree that CX F is a special experience--AFAIK, one of the best F's offered by any airline--for the reasons Mike stated. Plus they're even more private than J. So I'd opt for F.
That being said, if you think all you will do is work and/or sleep the whole way, or if you're really saving those miles for something special down the line, J might be perfectly adequate. But if enjoying your 12 or so hours each way is a factor, go for F.
One other thing you should know is that CX is starting to roll out its new J seat. Other folks in this forum will know far better than I do whether it might be on the LAX-HKG run next year. There's been an initial report of someone flying it on that route, at post 132 of this thread:

But even armed with that knowledge, the likelihood of it being old J and the difference that will remain between even new J and F is such that I'd recommend F.
