FT is full of threads complaining about the lack of availability of award seats. 1 Million miles are worthless if you can't use them. So, why generate customer ill will by giving out tons of miles and then not having the capacity for them to be used (or going bankrupt for allowing too many award seats).
Well, UA is not going to have to worry about too many 1MM customers complaining about availability, because with these changes, they are clearly signaling that attaining 1MM status isn't worth it.

If I read this all correctly, this is a horrible way to do business. It's amateurish and frighteningly cavalier, especially considering Mileage Plus is a huge strategic and financial asset for United. Pay for a focus group, if you want input. Don't resort to unprofessional tactics and games. I thought United was better than that. I spend enough to reach the top status on this leaked, rumored chart, but the question for me is ...do I want to spend that on UA after this. I will look for who has the best Z fares.

You may be correct, but if I make the jump, I indeed plan of sending SMI/J all my used BPs from flights on other airlines. No way I'm sending him my credit card receipts.
