E+ was the biggest driver to retain 2P status over the years. I had luck with the occasional UDU, while that was awesome, I was always happy knowing I had the extra room in E+.

Why would I spend $2k for the opportunity to potentially sit in E+? After next year and my status totally lapses under the proposed scheme - if this comes to fruition, fingers crossed it doesn't (I am one of the 1K's who did not not spend $8k to reach 1K), why wouldn't I just convert my MP Select card to the Explorer Card? I am still spending $95 on the annual fee, but I would still get some of the 2P benefits at a fraction of the cost.

Some of us are in the position to do something about it - go elsewhere. The mostly leisure travelers with business travel mixed in that have options will surely speak with their wallets.

There is a follow-up from the poster of the original blog entry.
  • He says this is for 2013, not for 2012
  • When flying coach, Global Services members get a free meal, free drinks, free entertainment (headsets and DirectTv), and free Red Carpet Club premium drink. Diamond members would get the choice of two of those when flying coach, while Platinum members would get to choose one.
  • Global Services, Diamond, and Platinum members would get a Global Entry enrollment fee waiver (Markie comment - useless for non-US members)
  • It should have said four segments on United, Continental, Copa, or Aerorepublica
GE fee waiver. I wonder what they are planning for those elites who already have it?
