DL is discontinuing service to St. Croix from Atlanta (seasonal?).

I want to avoid SJU if possible, any experience with connecting in St. Thomas? There are two airlines and the ferry as options. Any opinion on which puddle jumper to take (Cape or Seaborn)?

Wondering which airline and how much time to allow, separate tickets so I assume I will have to exit and then check-in for new flight.
