Most bookings on Orbitz will earn you points at chains as they are retail rates. Even though you pay for the room upfront, they are still retail rates and earn points the same way as booking through Marriott.com
I will caution you - OTA such as Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz etc DO have access to book retail rates however their preference is to sell wholesale rates which do not earn points/stay credit - you need to be careful when booking on these sites to be sure you're booking a retail rate versus a wholesale rate - just because a rate is equal to the brands website doesn't make it a retail rate - only the OTA can tell you which is which before booking
