You pay for that wonderful weather... When I left SAN, I sold my 1450 SqFt Townhouse for a whopping $799K it did have a wonderful view of Downtown, Airport, Coronado, harbor/bay and Ocean.

AUS is a great city (moving there in 6 months) housing is great, and if you are very much into Live Music, outdoor activity then AUS is a great place.

But to get back to FT, the airport has limited non-stop (unless you think one flight a day to PDX,SEA,LAX,SFO and SJC) to two cities (HOU,DFW)

DFW is probably more your speed, though SNA/SAN is also "red" (on the local/congressional district level). SAN also has a climate that's about a zillion times better than anyplace in Texas (unless you're a fan of 100ºF+ days in summer, snow in winter).
