Apparently China Eastern Airlines is flying direct to/from China (Shanghai) from August 9 on. The flight will run twice a week. This is the first time a regularly scheduled flight is going from America (Honolulu) to China. As most of you know you had to previously fly through Japan or Korea to get to China.

Gotta wonder how this shapes Hawaiian Airlines Asia strategy. Perhaps we will see a Hong Kong route.
Some folks refer to HA's "Asia strategy" as the "Dunkerley International Maneuver" (or "DIM" for short). Open new routes, charge more than the competition for an inferior product, and hope that the company becomes attractive enough for a merger or takeover.
