Dinner
August 11, 2011

Unfortunately, needed another day in DTW this week so I had to give up my $230 AA instant upgrade DTW-DFW-SJC flights and fend for myself for a late PM departure. The late DTW-SFO was sold out so I opted for the $375 A class DTW-LAS bargain connecting to $260 VX First LAS-SFO... by far the cheapest way home tonight. Yeah, sure AA, I'm going to spend an extra $709 for one way coach, but my EXP agent did add "no change fee" though.

Great DTW crew with multiple PDBs. A little rushed post departure as our FA started serving cocktails and dinner nearly simultaneously. No problem with my request to wait on dinner until the end of row 7 service.

Sorry DL, but get your act together with cocktail service. OK, yes I'm spoiled by AA and most other airlines in the civilized world that offer nuts/pupus with cocktail service. But I now come prepared with my own mixed nuts... unfortunately not heated or in a ramekin like on AA.

Choice of pasta or chicken marsala. In my experience, DL usually shines at dinner time and my chicken with couscous and asparagus was great, close to AA standards, just without the shrimp cocktail starter. Oh well.

Yes, it was delicious.

The key lime cheesecake was so-so, but after 4 G&Ts, did it really matter?

LAS flights are always a crap shoot, but the cabin was entertaining tonight... three couples on their way to celebrate 30-something anniversaries and both our DTW-based FA's joining in the fun and keeping them and the entire cabin well lubricated and entertained. Even a mini-celeb on board tonight with retired NBA star Spencer Haywood in 6B.
