Longtime lurker, finally took the plunge on joining. I have appreciated the info in the Marriott forum and hope to be able to contribue to this great forum. Is it true that all prepaid bookings made via third-party sites are ineligible for points, even if the prepaid rate is a Marriott rate? I made a booking on Orbitz that is the Marriott "World of Opportunity" 20% off with Visa rate. I mistakenly assumed since it was a public rate and not a wholesale/opaque rate that I would receive full credit (totally understand that priceline/bid type rates are ineligible). Marriott customer care is stating it is completely ineligible for points and elite night credits simply because it was prepaid via Orbitz.

I fail to see the logic that a Marriott rate, which I later learned was available via Marriott.com (darn!) is ineligible.

I also understand from the forum that at a minimum, I should be able to add my platinum number to the reservationt to receive the normal amenities and possible room upgrades (even if we don't end up being able to get points) - is that correct?
