The seats are generally wider, I think (or in the case of some low-costs, e.g. EZY, they specified a wider aisle instead), because Airbus have generally gone for slightly wider cabins than Boeing, but not quite wide enough for an extra seat (unlike the B777).
If you sit with legs apart rather than together, this can give the feeling of a better pitch.
