I don't know why everybody is jumping on the OP. I've seen this happen repeatedly since the flights are now usually over booked.

On just my past 4 flights I've seen 3 instances of non-frequent flyers getting upgraded all with poor results. (Yes, based on their comments I know fer sure none of them were elite and all of them had never flown in F.) In all three instances the alcohol was cut off and in one case airline officials came to escort him off.

The last flight a couple of days ago provided entertainment. A middle-aged guy, non-elite had been back in row 18. For whatever reason he was brought up to F and was seated in the row behind me, right next to a very attractive young lady. He kept saying, "Wow, how did I get so lucky." He proceeded to put the full court press on the young gal. Maybe he figured he got lucky once so he might get lucky again with someone at least 20 years younger. I was trying to sleep but couldn't help listening to the (non-stop one-sided) conversation. It was like watching a train wreck, you can't help yourself. Even after he spilled his drink on her (and was finally cut off) he kept trying. LOL

It's hard for me to believe that on an overbooked Friday afternoon flight there wasn't an elite they could have upgraded.
