I don't know. Every other popular site that I can think of uses titles, post count, or both. However there is something to be said for trying to be a cut above the rest of the sites.0
I'm gathering ideas and perspectives, so your trial period idea interests me. I am a little concerned that that trial period might not produce a conclusive result, leading to more disappointment than just doing nothing. Doing nothing always seems to have excellent support on the TalkBoard!
