The internet isn't the same, or regarded in the same way it was a dozen years ago, where people don't know whose opinions to listen to, where news reports were trusted sources and blogs and bulletin boards (regarded as) hogwash. In fact it is almost been reversed where news sources are looked at in a suspicious manner, and bulletin boards are receiving respect (only where it is due, of course).
I see no reason to keep, promote, dignify or refute a posters behavior. Post padding rules are all but ignored, except in the case of coupon/Omni runs.
My question to the Talk Board is (and I don't really want or expect a response, it's just an open question):
Would removal of post count result in a loss of value to Flyertalk and its users? We have the date for length of time a person has been a member.
... and to be honest, the argument that a high post count is reflective of more 'statesly' advice is a red herring. I have been the benefactor of a great deal of positive information from early, or low post count members. And have shaken my head at the worthless dribble of members with high post counts (of course this is subjective, as I have read both good and seemingly meaningless post from members of all post count categories).
I say that "FTs value"' is on the post itself. Post count manipulates peoples actions and impressions. I say hide the post count for a trial period. The gripes that all posts are not treated equally will be moot, and you can assess the situation at a future point.
IMO this is a very good motion ^ post count doesn't mean anything : people can currently increase their posts count and gain titles simply by posting in Omni-like threads and not contributing anything on-topic to the board
