I sat in EC on a transcon semi-recently. That being said the recline and leg room is definitely noticeable. It is nothing like flat beds or the recline in old BE, but if you sit and recline in a regular Y seat and then EC you will surely notice the difference. Also if it is not a full flight, you will likely have an empty middle seat next to you as most people aren't looking to pay the fee to sit in a middle seat.
