If it's a company card, there will undoubtedly be someone at the company whose job it is to deal with this stuff. No need for you to have spent any time.
Just commenting on this bit - the following could have happened. My corporate AMEX is still my personal liability, I need to file an expense claim to get reimbursed, and then pay AMEX myself. As well it is very much possible that my corporate TA will not do much if such a thing happened to me, so don't assume it would be different for the OP's wife. Actually I just got a refund for a $35 service fee that was incorrectly charged to my corporate AMEX card by the corporate TA, it took around 4 weeks for them to investigate and process the refund.
Fully agreed though about writing a simple factual letter to the GM. If that fails it may still be worth to escalate.
