To get to the nice beaches; i.e. Surfers Paradise and such you can take busses or even the train.
All these do cost money and with 40 bucks a day you won´t last long.

Sydney is very expensive, Quensland much cheaper in general. You should take a tent with you.
And alos have travel and medical insurance.

If you can get a WHV and find some work.
