How do you manage to avoid the cancellation fee by walking out if the internet isn't working?

On a separate point, it's classic price discrimination for people who aren't familiar with the concept. High end hotels paradoxically charge more for internet access because the people who stay there are more likely not to care how much it costs. You, by making your choice of hotels at the medium range and based on wifi availability, have built into those hotels the need to offer that service or lose business.... Plus, they have very little differentiating one property from one another.

Unlikely you'll be able to hurt the higher end hotels or "show them" that they're wrong. People go to expensive hotels because they can, not because they need to, and they have special draw because of their location, services, brand, etc, and you as the wifi-evaluating cheapos are the minority! (to put it in extreme terms to make the point...)
