While SHA-HKG is starting to resemble a competitive market (thanks to the shear presence of those two airlines that most of us avoid like the plague), pretty much every other PRC-HK market is a battlefield from the passenger standpoint. Let's take PEK-HKG, for example. If you book a few days in, you're looking at $700 just to get a chance at a seat on Friday. Even if you are flexible and book in advance on UO, you're still looking at $250 each way, about twice as much as 3折 tickets to SZX.
