Backpacking Australia (Itinerary and Flight Help)
Hey Guys, I am planing on backpacking Australia in the next couple of weeks. Originally I wanted to do Thailand, however I couldnt find anyone to go with so I am a little iffy about going there alone. I have 2 quick questions about Aus.
My first question is getting there. I found a 1550 UA (ORD-SYD) flight. I wish I could get that number down to 1200. My friend told me that that the best bet would be to look up separate flights such as ORD-Vancouver then Van-Syd. Or even ORD-somewhere in mexico, mexico-syd. Basically, it would be cheaper to book 2 different round trip then one long one. I was even looking at ORD-LAX LAX-SYD is cheaper then doing ORD-SYD (w. a layover in LAX). If you guys have any hints or ideas, please help out.
My other question is about a good itinerary. I dont have a certain place I am going. I will be flying into SYD and probably traveling north. I am on a budget and will be staying in hostels. I really wanted to check out Cairns and do some scuba diving in the reefs. I also wanted to experience some of the outback. What would you guys recommend? Train or Plane to go up north? Any sites that I should see or any hints/tips in general? I love history, outdoor stuff and I just like to see things that I wont find in Chicago.
Thanks for all your help!!!
