Keep in mind you do have SDC as an available option. Also, many agents will simply reaccommodate you without question, and if you get a "no" you should try another agent.
Both of the above assume you are on DL for all flights. If AUS-ATL was on another airline, forget it.
That is good advice. If it looks like you are going to have an issue, tell the wife to get on her flight and you do a SDC for a later SRQ flight.
Whatever you do, be polite and ask for mercy. If you push too hard, Delta holds the cards here and you lose...
Be smart and aware of your flight possibilities/options in advance. Also, if possible, SDC on an earlier flight out of AUS if you can... lead the agents down the path you want to go....
