I purchased two tickets from RDU to SLC last week using my UK MBNA AAdvantage credit card and had the 4.50 charge applied at the final payment stage for each ticket. The US Platinum Desk are unaware of any credit card charges and referred me to the UK call center who eventually found someone who advised that the credit card fee was applied to payments using UK registered credit cards effective from 8th July 2011. It applies to Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Diners cards. At 1st they said it applied on AA.co.uk bookings but when i said I booked on AA.com they corrected and said it was the country address of the credit card that determined the charge.

I wondered if they are 'market testing' to see if they can charge $8 for US credit card bookings which would generate substantially more revenue than the UK ticket volumes warrant.

It makes no sense that they apply this charge to passengers with an AAdvantage credit card - thats taking the pi$$ big time and I would like MBNA to question AA executives on this rip off which must reduce the value of any deal they have with AA. Maybe AA has learnt from Ryanair

Either this is still a work in progress or it only applies to certain credit cards (I paid with my MBNA AAdvantage card)
