If you ask me, the multiple calls indicated OP had received some indication to cause him to not trust the story he was being told. What was that?

He originally called the platinum reservations line and was told "the pool would be closed." So, it appears to me, OP was setting himself up for disappointment by calling the hotel and inquiring directly. He should have said no thanks to the platinum reservations line and made his reservations at the Hilton as he stated it was closer to the event.
