Ive flown quite a lot this summer and I've noticed that SAS tends to overstaff their european routes.
With their concept of buy on board, meaning very little to actually do for the crew, they could easily stick to the rules of 1 FA pr 50 passengers.
SAS staffs their MD80s with 4 FAs and A321 with 5!
MD80s has 150 seats so only need 3 FAs and A321 has 198 seats so only needs 4!
Jetblues concept of extra legrooms on their A320s and E-190s means that they only need 3 FAs for their A320s (150 seats) and 2 for their E-190s (100 seats) AND they make their customers happy!!!
If it makes business sense to actually remove seats to reduce the number of FAs I'm sure SAS would benefit with their experienced expensive! crew.
I hope the unions aren't so stupid that they keep these rules until there is no more SAS....
In a high competition and high wage area like Scandinavia its really just common sense!
Especially because the customer service wont take a hit because its basically non existing as it is

Love SAS though
