So it would only take one more referral to get to 34,000 miles (referral would add 12,000 to the initial 22,000 + at least 1,000 for the spending) at a cost of £140 in annual fees and £1,000 of spending.
Of course if you don't have anyone to refer then the option I mentioned before is better. (And you get more benefits from the Plat card, e.g. Priority Pass and Travel Insurance).
And, of course, you can cancel your platinum card having bagged the 42,000 miles for a pro-rata refund of the annual membership fee. So, if you only keep it for three months, the 42,000 miles will only cost c.£75. Also happy to provide a referral if you wish to PM me.
