mmmm....I'm not very well clued up on the various credit cards and what you can hold simultaneously, but if you can't refer friends/relatives with the card you have I would suggest you get an Amex Gold Card and pay three family members their annual fee of £70. Total cost would be £210 for them and £70 for you. If you know some higher earners that might be interested they could get immediate approval online. Your account would be credited 12,000 points per person, which you can convert to BA miles in a couple of days. If you are cute the whole process could be done in a week.

Actually it is even simpler than that, since Richard would get 22,000 miles for getting his own Gold Card if referred. (And spending £1,000). So it would only take one more referral to get to 34,000 miles (referral would add 12,000 to the initial 22,000 + at least 1,000 for the spending) at a cost of £140 in annual fees and £1,000 of spending.
Of course if you don't have anyone to refer then the option I mentioned before is better. (And you get more benefits from the Plat card, e.g. Priority Pass and Travel Insurance).
