PK, they were waiting for city council to approve new plans for hotel on both sides of the street. I was told they were going to demolish and start a new. Approval was given awhile back so I guess they are waiting for the right time to start.
If you want beautiful surroundings away from everything choose the St regis on Kauai. It gets alot of cloud in the afternoon from the mountains close by. It also seems to have alot of parents with young kids there. The RH is very nice if they give you a tower suite. The old building suites are ok but nothing special. Prefer it over Moana any day. Love the Sheraton waikiki for its club floor view and offerings for breakfast and afternoon cocktails. It is a huge hotel and pool chairs are taken early. Drinks are more expensive in the club than downstairs in the bar though. Bar happy hour is great and so are the Mai Tais.
The Westin on Maui is also nice but RH or St regis for me.
