You can get around this by booking a very cheap one way. Giving up that money, but the new balance will be issued as a voucher usable by anyone.
On a side note something I haven't had the opportunity of trying yet but am curious about is...
If I book a cheap non refundable one way, get the voucher instantly, use the balance right away for a different ticket, then call back and cancel the one way within the initial 24 hour window, what the end result would be.
