JetBlue, AirTran, and Spirit do not have 1st class and do not serve meals (though JetBlue is still pretty nice). Spirit in particular is very bare bones. American, Delta, and United's 1st class product is better than US' but if you are coming from NW Canada, United through Newark will be the only remotely convient way.

You can't consider AC from Toronto?

We are taking one way tickets from YOW to NAS via EWR (on CO), and then coming back from NAS to YOW via YYZ on AC.

We wanted to stop in a US Star Alliance hub city, for the shopping in that city.

We were able to book our route on CO, rather than via PHL, CLT, or DCA to NAS on US.
