It's 4 hours for domestic and transborder flights (this may also apply to "Sun Destinations"). 24 hours applies only to international flights.

(If there's no onward connection within 4 hours of your arrival, then it's still a valid connection to use the next available flight so you can sometimes get around it based on scheduling.)

For regular AE awards bookings ("ClassicFlight" or whatever they're called), you're allowed one free stopover for domestic and transborder bookings. Unclear how this would work for a one-way award redemption.
