It is of course always a gamble, but over the long run, not that one night, is what matters.

Did you try contacting the hotel directly? There have been reports from time to time of somebody being nice to a regular customer and letting them switch the date, though that's a long shot.

When the wife was commuting to Phoenix from Newark every week, we were pricelining the hotel for the Sunday night before her 6 am flight. Sometimes it was half the going rate, sometimes it was less than 25% of the going rate. Fourteen or sixteen weeks in a row, and we had to cancel one because of a snowstorm. We were so far ahead dollar wise it really didn't matter and it would probably have been too late when they canceled the flight for us to cancel the hotel anyways.

So even there we felt we were making money.

Just a suggestion, have you tried the MVP rates? I usually find them much better than the prepaid rates, and you can cancel them. It depends on the hotel, on some they are not competitive.

You're lucky, I hardly ever see a prepaid that's even worth considering with other rates either lower or just a dollar or two more.
