I realize this is a bit more philosophical than the usual complaints about upgrade windows, award flights, etc but....

Why does DL put the first class cabin in front of the plane? Why does any airline really? Personally I wish FC/BC would be over the wing; it's the safest part of the plane. It stinks having to choose between elite seating and safety. Does anyone have the history of why FC was put in the front specifically?
