I couldn't agree more with the title of this particular thread.

Closing threads should surely be something only done in extremis.

While I agree that we should all try to stay in topic, enforcing this too zealously makes the whole forum an unpleasant place where we are constantly looking over our shoulders in fear of intervention by the moderator.

This is not meant as a personal attack on anyone (honest) but I do hope that recent activities is not an indication of what should be expected in future.
