I would assume that, just like the rest of the population, some terrorists are idiots, some are smart, some are brilliant, and many are in-between. This control might catch some of the idiots and it might catch someone who failed to prepare properly for this particular control, even if they are not idiots.
The question is: How many terrorists would this control catch versus the cost (both in dollars and in civil rights)?
Given that TSA hasn't found a single terrorist despite all the billions thrown at them, I'd dare venture and say 0. The money has always been better spent giving it to intelligence and LE to disrupt the plots before they even get to the airport.
We all know how bad TSA's failure rate is. TSA is the last line of defense, and a Maginot Line at that. If a terrorist makes it to the airport, it's already too late and they will likely board the plane.
The costs are too high for the zero ROI we get out of TSA.
