I agree. If you have the balls to ask, then go for it -I don't.

Just bear two things in mind about hand luggage:
1) You must be able to lift the bag into the overhead locker; and
2) BA can always change their hand luggage policy between now and Christmas, or there could be some government imposed restriction.

Edit to add: also note that BA's policy is that you can take TWO pieces of hand luggage, but the second bag is to be smaller than the first (laptop bag/briefcase or similar) and again can be up to 23KG. Hypothetically, you can carry 46KG of hand luggage, but no bag can exceed 23KG.
