Continental is very liberal and quick in terms of status matching. I got my AA Plat matched to onepass Gold in a day or two. And being that it's August you would keep it to Feb 2013. This would give you Star Alliance gold for your international travel, and with the UA merger you would slide right into the equivalent UA status.
