Anybody has any experience upgrading a TA WT+ to Club (W Fare) IAD-LHR? How much do this cash upgrades usually run? When is the best time to do it? At web check in? or at the airport? Does my Gold Status matter at all?

BA has 3 flights from IAD to LHR, 6pm (777), 8pm (767) and 10pm (777) on Aug 4th. In which flight would I have more chances to upgrade? The 767 flight its out of the question since its a very old bird.
