Yeah, I just listed those places as things I've come across off the top of my head. Thanks for the suggestions - among some other beaches I've looked up, Khanom Beach near Nakhon Si Thammarat seems particularly lovely.
Been there done that - Even in early January the beach was absolutely deserted. If you are looking for a quiet place with only time for you and your loved one i would recommend this place! Koh Samui is also about 30min drive + ferry ride away if you want to go clubbing/shopping.
