the bonus (ff and Senator) is also for renewing (but that may not be every year - may be it is only for every renewal nad my Senator card is good till march-2002 ...). The official text reads:
10,000 (german residents) / 7'000 (non-german-residents)bonus miles as Welcome Aboard bonus on gaining or renewing your Frequent Traveller status. 30,000 (german residents) / 20'000 (non-german-residents) bonus miles as Welcome Aboard thank-you gift on gaining or renewing your Senator status.
