It's more the principle than the expense itself. I was at the Maui Wailea resort last month for 8 nights on an award stay. I expected it to be free (well, 210,000 points, but no cash). Then I was hit with a $30/day resort fee, which I could avoid but then I'd have to pay $25/day for self-parking. And neither one apparently earns Marriott points. It just seems petty and certainly irritates this very frequent traveler.

By the way, the notion that resort fees don't earn points is perhaps the most outrageous Marriott rule ever! How are they economically distinguishable from room charges? Both go right into the hotel's pocket, unlike taxes, for instance.

OK, enough ranting.
