Check in staff usually tag stroller in case of gate problems but we always fold & put in carry bag at gate and board early (as with a toddler) to ensure empty lockers, and no-one has ever queried. This has proved very useful on transits - even doubles as a bed when you're seated in the lounge if you tilt back & hold handles on your lap. We bought ours in UK - as ever, you'll get ripped off in Oz but there's always the online auction sites!
We had the Quinny Zapp as well. You only have to convince the Check-In staff (sometimes folding and packint it helps) or tear off the tags. I had some harsh discussions (LX Checkin in MUC and SQ Gate Agent in MEL) but mostly no problems. I just tell them "This is not a stroller, it is a piece of hand luggage". For most airlines the "Even BA lets us on board with that" helps. When flying with BA "Even LH lets us on board with that". Testet on:
Boeing: 737, 747, 757, 767, 777
Airbus: 300, 319, 320, 321, 330, 340-600, 380
Avro RJ100, Avor RJ85, Embraer 195
Testet on Airlines: LH, BA, QF, SQ, TG, LX, IB, DE, OS + div. regional Partners
Smaller planes (Dash, ATR,...) have delivery at aircraft, so no need to put them into the bins.
