Becare on being too dependent on US issued credit cards when filling up gas though; you may be stranded as most unmanned gas stations in Italy won't accept mag-stripes anymore.

As a back up, I suggest buying a Travelex Chip-and-PIN Cash Passport card should the need arises where your mag-stripe only credit card becomes useless.
