Hi,

Here's the text from the MR program pages:

"Earn 10 Marriott Rewards points or 1 air mile* per US dollar spent on room rate only at Courtyard by Marriott®"

http://www.marriott.com/rewards/earn-points/points.mi

Points on room rate only, thus no points on an award stay. This has been in place forever as far as I know.
