The area2/area3 rule is definitely there. Had your eyes checked recently?
This new routing starting in DEL looks valid to me. There are no restrictions on Africa<->Europe journeys.
Great Circle Mapper tells me the new itinerary is only 29098 miles. Maybe could you slim it down a bit and get a 29000 mile ticket?
