As said, you need to call during "work" hours. My link did not work and it took a daytime phone call to get it done, then it still took a couple of days to update.
That being said, I have found (for me) that the CO upgrades clear before the UA upgrades. So once your 1K status is matched, I think you should have no issues.
Also, my UA 1K # seems to give me the status I need for UDU but for the last CO flight I took I had my new CO # put into the reservation at the airport, but the upgrade had already cleared.
