I'm also a smoker and over the last few years, as a Diamond, I probably averaged about 30-40% when a smoking room was not available even when I noted in the comments section of the reservation that a smoking room was more important than room type to me. I have never been offered compensation nor did I ever requested compensation. There are more and more non-smoking properties now and even cities like Boston where it's against the law to smoke in a hotel room. Most properties have so few smoking rooms that there are not enough for smoking guests. It's not a big deal for me. I just go downstairs and smoke outside the hotel, sometimes in the rain or snow. I think walking a guest on a prepaid reservation is a bigger injustice.
