They will insist that you put the bags in the x-ray and then they WILL call a bag check. Coins in large numbers are difficult to see through. At that point ask the TSA officer for a private screening. He HAS to comply. They may ask you the total amount you are carrying. If it is over $10,000 they may take some personal information from you such as you name and flight number.

Even though if you are flying within the US it is no business of the government how much money you are traveling with.
