The flights are not until October so I still have opportunity to re-select, if you think these are really awful seats.

You should be alright. A lot of people like 23 A/K because they're at the front of the mini cabin. A bit close to the bar but not too close. If you want a quieter experience, move to the front of the forward cabin. If you want to spend all your time at the bar, then you're ok.
As for the 777, the forward mini cabin is nicer than the rear cabin (and one of the rare opportunities to turn left when you board an EK a/c). I prefer row 6 because it's easier to get out of the window seat and it's very private.
