Oh, I definitely have, from the parking garage that's between Terminal C and the rail station. It was a while ago though. They often used to single-track it at off-hours which made getting around and to/from the NJT station a real pain. I think they would have one train going back and forth (and maybe a separate one from the garage to the rail station) so it could be a looong wait.
Though I will admit that NJT service to EWR sucks, for example, on the weekends (2 trains an hour that depart 10 mins apart, so be prepared to wait 50 minutes), but that's a NJT issue.
Well, you really can't separate the two IMHO. The NJT schedule is really horrible, particularly on the weekend as you point out. I wrote in a complaint and heard back that it's because they're always single-tracking into Penn Station on the weekend (for maintenance I guess) so that's the only way they can run the schedule. Very frustrating. The LIRR is almost never more than 20 minutes between trains even at very off-peak hours, and it is usually only 5-15 minutes max. I don't even bother checking the LIRR schedule unless I plan on cutting it close getting to the airport. When I arrive into EWR I have to have the train times in front of me because if there's going to be a long wait then it's better to just take the bus (except during rush hour of course).
